Everyone should know how to use a vacuum cleaner, and they should also know how to dust. Some items of furniture or flooring in homes and offices require a little more care though.
Despite the rise of the remote worker, or perhaps because of it, the global home office market is growing year by year
According to Statista, the global home office market was worth $54 billion in 2021. It is predicted to rise to around $85 billion by 2026.
The home furniture market is growing at a similar rate, but is perhaps not surprisingly, much bigger. Back in 2019, the home furniture market was worth around $111 billion globally.
Most of this furniture is standard, and you undoubtedly have basic items in your home such as a bed and a sofa. Some of this furniture though is more specialized or is made from materials that need care and experience to clean.

What concerns are there with expensive or specialist furniture cleaning?

If you have spent thousands of bucks on furniture for your home or office, you will surely want to take care of it.
Expensive rugs, marble worktops, leather furniture. All of these things need specialist knowledge when it comes to cleaning them. Just using the wrong cleaning products on a piece of furniture could cause irreparable damage.
Some materials are very sensitive to cleaning products and need to be treated simply with warm water and gentle soap. Other materials need specialist cleaning products.
For instance, you should use professional leather cleaning services if you have a desire for your furniture to last longer. A professional service dealing with leather could also advise on how to extend the life of your chairs or sofa.
Just placing a leather sofa in the wrong place can lead to a shortened lifespan. Sunlight, heat, and moisture, can all lead to leather becoming tired, cracked, and discolored.

Can you damage some materials if they are not cleaned properly?

You have already read above the dangers of not looking after leather furniture, and other materials can be just as sensitive.
Marble worktops are highly desirable, and while not necessarily considered furniture by some, they actually are. Countertops or worktops are functional pieces of furniture in the kitchen, and sometimes other areas of an office or home.
Ones made from marble or certain woods can be very attractive, and even add value to your property. But marble is tricky to look after. Just spilling some substances on marble can cause damage that is hard to remove.
The problem with marble, in particular, is that it is porous. Therefore, whatever liquid substance you spill on it, could be absorbed. This means oil, grease, wine, and even cleaning products.
Does this mean that you shouldn’t attempt to clean some types of furniture yourself, or is it safe to do so?

Do you need to use specialist cleaners?

For the majority of furniture, upholstery, and flooring, in your home, you probably don’t need any specialist cleaning.
Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean that you should shy away from using professionals.
There are plenty of guides on how to clean leather, wood, and marble, on the internet. And much of this advice is good. Nevertheless, sometimes it might be safer to use pros.
There are many ways to design a home office on a budget, but having leather furniture isn’t one of them. But, this doesn’t mean that you didn’t choose to install a leather sofa in your living room.
Is it worth the risk of damaging the sofa by following some DIY cleaning guide on the net as opposed to using a professional leather cleaning service?
There are other benefits to using professional cleaners too

Why should you consider using professional cleaners for certain areas of the home and office?

The last couple of years has seen a huge rise in the number of people who have decided, or been asked, to work from home. All these remote workers need a proper workspace.
The problem though is that when you work in an office, you will have hired cleaners to make sure that the area is clean and hygienic. Your home office is unlikely to come with a cleaner, and you might not have the time to put it into this area yourself.
Before you know it, your home office has a layer of dust, and you are finding yourself sneezing, and having a runny nose. Using professional services will not only save you time, but they may help your health.

What are the health issues with not cleaning a home or office property?

Bringing in professionals can not only help to protect your expensive leather sofa and your beautiful carpet but also your health.
Houses and offices vary in the amount of traffic they have, but they can both suffer from a build-up of dust, grime, and allergens.
The good news is that dust mites can’t live in leather sofas. The material just isn’t right for them. However, other areas of your home and office are ideal for creating health problems. This includes your rugs and carpets.

Do carpets need specialist cleaning?

If you have an expensive carpet you will definitely want it to be cleaned professionally. Some carpets and rugs need extra special care.
Using the wrong cleaning products could cause discoloration, have a bleaching effect or damage the weave and fibers.
However, it isn’t just luxury carpets that should be professionally cleaned, it is all of them. This is because they trap many elements that can affect health. Without proper cleaning, the carpet won’t survive as long as the manufacturer intended.
Carpets can collect all manner of things from dead insect parts to pollen. Children who like playing on the floor can even be at risk from salmonella if they pick up dropped food and then eat it.
There are also problems with allergic reactions, air quality, and mold. According to the World Health Organization, mycotoxins are harmful to anyone’s health. Mycotoxins can be found in carpets and are caused by certain kinds of mold.
Dust mites also love carpets. These can also cause a range of allergic-type reactions in individuals. Vacuuming alone cannot remove all of the problems that can happen with a carpet.
Deep-rooted grime can not only help to dull the appearance of a carpet, but it will also damage the fibers over time. Dirt and grit will have an abrasive effect on the weave, and break the material down.
Certainly, if you have spent a small fortune on your carpet, you want it to last, and you also don’t want it to become home to thousands of dust mites who may make you sick.

Summary

You probably know the importance of, and how to, keep your workspace organized and clean. However, if you have certain pieces of furniture then you may need to get them cleaned professionally.
Certainly, some surfaces such as marble, and materials like leather, need proper care and cleaning. A luxury carpet needs to be cleaned professionally too. However, it isn’t just the special or luxury items in your home and office that need proper care.
Your regular office carpets are breeding grounds for bacteria and can pose a health hazard. Regular cleaning here is as essential as getting in professionals for your beautiful leather sofa.
