BŌK Modern, an innovator in architectural metal systems, announces the launch of Simple Mount Sunshades, a bracketless shading system that eliminates the need for protruding mounts.
Fabricated in aluminum, the system uses a standardized direct-mount attachment approach, resulting in a cleaner, more intentional façade without exposed hardware. Traditional sunshades often introduce coordination challenges: added steel, field measuring, waterproofing complications, and careful sequencing with cladding, windows, and scaffolding. Exposed brackets can interrupt an architect’s intended design expression while adding interference for contractors around scaffolding.
Developed in close collaboration with construction professionals and waterproofing specialists, Simple Mount Sunshades were engineered to remove those friction points. The lightweight aluminum construction allows for clean forms, folded profiles, patterned architectural elements, and is finished for long-term exterior exposure with minimal maintenance.
When window sizes are coordinated early in the process, Simple Mount Sunshades offer:
● No complicated field-dimensioning
● Reduced interference with scaffolding
● Integration of BŌK’s architectural patterns directly into the shade
● Simplified installation sequence, reducing the number of custom conditions needing solving in the field
● Attachment outside of the window flange which ensures that the window warranty is maintained and waterproofing is straightforward
By eliminating the bracket, BŌK Modern has reimagined one of architecture’s most familiar building components, proving that simplicity, when thoughtfully engineered, can be a powerful driver of innovation.
Case Studies
For Sunnydale Block 3A in San Francisco, CA BŌK Modern supplied a comprehensive suite of integrated metal systems—including balcony guardrails and simple mount sunshades— unified by a custom perforated pattern designed by David Baker Architects. The pattern’s rhythmic geometry brings texture and warmth to the façades while providing shading and ventilation. Because the sunshades read as a clean architectural feature rather than hardware-mounted add-ons, the pattern, shadow, and form take center stage. Architects can select from BŌK’s standard patterns or integrate a custom design early in the design process.

Africatown Plaza is a seven-story mixed-use development in Seattle, WA featuring 126 affordable homes and offices, with an organic form inspired by African architecture. Available in both Cor-Ten and aluminum, the project’s Simple Mount Sunshades feature an abstract circular pattern that pairs functionality with artistic expression, reinforcing the building’s graceful, sculptural movement.
