Sacred Heart University has launched a Bachelor of Science in construction management, offering students a pathway into the construction industry through a curriculum combining engineering principles, business strategy and hands-on experience.
Housed within the School of Computing & Engineering in the College of Arts & Sciences, the program prepares students for careers overseeing commercial, residential and public sector construction projects.
The launch comes amid continued demand for construction management professionals. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 46,800 construction manager positions are projected to open annually, with median annual earnings exceeding $106,000.
“Construction management offers graduates strong job prospects, competitive salaries, and opportunities to work on projects that have a lasting impact on their communities,” says Kevin Bowlyn, Construction Management Program Director.
Students will develop skills in project safety, estimating, cost control, scheduling, contracts, risk management, sustainability and digital construction technologies. The curriculum also requires a business minor to strengthen students’ leadership and management capabilities.
“Construction management is the process of planning, coordinating, and overseeing a construction project from concept to completion,” Bowlyn says. “Construction managers are the leaders who bring together everyone involved in a project, including architects, engineers, contractors, and clients, to ensure the project is completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with the design specifications.”
The program’s curriculum is aligned with standards established by the American Council for Construction Education. Small class sizes, faculty mentorship and industry experience are designed to connect classroom learning with the demands of modern construction projects.
Sacred Heart’s location in Fairfield, Connecticut, also provides access to employers and internship opportunities throughout the Northeast. Students can pursue dual degree options that allow them to work toward graduate-level credentials while completing their undergraduate studies.
