National Technical Institute (NTI) has launched a new Data Center Technician program at its Phoenix campus, offering accelerated training for careers in data center construction, installation, maintenance and operations. The 64-hour program combines classroom and hands-on laboratory instruction, with evening classes scheduled twice weekly. Enrollment is open, with the first classes scheduled to begin Nov. 18.
Developed in collaboration with a national data center installation and technology solutions company, the curriculum focuses on the technical skills needed to support the rapidly expanding industry. The partnership builds on an existing relationship through which the company has hired graduates from NTI’s Houston campus.
Graduates who complete the program are guaranteed an interview with NTI’s data center partner for positions in Central Arizona. Those willing to relocate may also have opportunities at the company’s locations nationwide.
“The data center industry is reshaping Phoenix, and the workforce needs to keep pace with that growth,” says Rick Jackson, COO of NTI. “NTI’s job is to make sure people in this community have access to the training they need to compete for those careers. This program is a direct investment in our students and in the future of this city.”
The program comes as demand for skilled construction workers continues to grow. Associated Builders and Contractors projects the industry will need 349,000 additional workers in 2026, highlighting the broader workforce challenges facing contractors and specialized trades.
Students attend four-hour evening sessions on Wednesdays and Fridays, completing the program in approximately two months. NTI instructors lead the training with guidance and hands-on support from the partner company’s training team.
“NTI has always believed that great training should lead directly to a great job, and this program is proof of that,” says Ryan Woodward, CEO of NTI. “Trade education is evolving and NTI is evolving with it. The data center industry is where we are planting our next flag, and we are committed to being the best at training people for it.”
NTI plans to expand the program to its Nevada and Texas campuses pending state approvals, with the goal of developing a nationwide workforce pipeline for the data center industry.
