Chipotle Mexican Grill’s recent announcement that it has invested in automated delivery startup Nuro reflects the growing interest in food delivery robots among restaurant and food retail players and consumers. The pandemic has fueled a rise in food delivery, but even back in 2019 about 40% of consumers surveyed by the National Restaurant Association said they would opt for delivery by robot if it were available.
