Suffolk Construction, one of the most successful, privately held building contractors in the country, announced today the appointment of Min Zavarella to lead the firm’s Los Angeles office as vice president and chief operating officer. The company also named Jim D’Agostino executive vice president and Bernie Morrissey as vice president of operations, in the Los Angeles office.
With more than 36 years of experience in the construction industry, Mr. Zavarella brings extensive background in project pre-planning and project management expertise to his leadership role at Suffolk. As chief operating officer, he is responsible for the day-to-day performance of the Los Angeles office, achievement of owners’ goals and exceeding client expectations throughout the construction process. Previously, Mr. Zavarella was part of senior operations for Webcor Builders where he was involved in high-profile projects such as the Hotel and Residences at LA Live and Symantec Headquarters Culver City. As director of preconstruction for the construction firm Bernards, he supported the business development of mixed-use residential, commercial and university level education projects.
“I am thrilled to take on this new role and focus my efforts on both identifying new opportunities for growth in Los Angeles while continuing to meet and exceed existing project goals,” said Mr. Zavarella. “As a national firm, Suffolk provides Los Angeles with industry-leading expertise, a breadth of resources and a unique focus on utilizing state-of-the-art technology via our “build smart” approach to construction management.”
Mr. D’Agostino will provide the strategic direction and alignment of business and service initiatives, while overseeing the management of client relationships. He has more than 40 years of experience in the construction industry, working with respected international and national firms. As a community and business leader, he serves on the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and Los Angeles Business Council. He has also served on the boards of the American Institute of Architects and National Junior Achievement.
As vice president of operations in the Los Angeles office, Mr. Morrissey will be responsible for recruiting and developing key staff members, overseeing preconstruction efforts, and ensuring that all construction projects adhere to Suffolk’s highest safety and quality standards. Mr. Morrissey joined Suffolk in 2014, bringing with him more than 33 years of experience as an operations manager across a wide range of sectors including education, healthcare, commercial, retail and residential.
“The appointments of Mr. Zavarella, Mr. D’Agostino and Mr. Morrissey are a testament to our continued commitment to the Los Angeles market,” said Andy Ball, President, West Region, Suffolk Construction. “Having this expanded leadership presence in Los Angeles is critical, as they will help us demonstrate – on a local and regional level – our “build smart” promise to current and prospective clients.”
Suffolk’s presence in the Los Angeles market spans nearly two decades. Earlier this year, Suffolk relocated its office from Irvine to downtown Los Angeles to better meet the needs of current and future clients in the downtown area. The Los Angeles office is part of Suffolk’s West Region, which includes offices in both San Diego and San Francisco.
