Smith & Fong Co., manufacturer of Plyboo® bamboo architectural panels and flooring products, announced it has significantly expanded its award-winning Sound™ Collection (formerly PlybooSound) architectural panels with sound-dampening technology, according to company president Angus Stocks.
“We have experienced an incredible increase in demand for our Sound™ Collection, which offers great design aesthetic with a superior noise reduction coefficient,” Stocks said. “I have been both excited and proud to be able to offer these new panel designs, but I am especially excited about the new Sound offerings for 2016.”
The company’s New York clients in particular had been looking for a more urban and neutral feel for modern interiors. “Integrating the Sound technology with a linear look and proprietary Fog gray finish delivers a rather NYC modernity,” Stocks said.
The new Sound™ Collection is comprised of seven new designs that push a predominantly linear look in both an asymmetrical and parallel-lined panel. But with each design comes a subtle background pattern emanating from the interior carving that contributes to the sound-absorbing characteristics of these panels.
Offered in both Amber and Fog gray finish, Sound incorporates QuietWall™ noise dampening with a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) up to 0.70. Panels are produced with the company’s RealCore™ technology, which ensures the highest structural integrity.
Sound is made from FSC® 100%-Certified bamboo, which is also rapidly renewable. Sheet sizes are 4’x8′ x 3/4″ thick and available prefinished or unfinished. Panels can also be special ordered in sizes up to 10’ length. The line is designed in San Francisco and fabricated in the USA from domestic and foreign components. Sound panels can also contribute to multiple USGBC LEED 4.0 credits.
Founded in 1989 and headquartered in San Francisco, Smith & Fong Co. was the first U.S. company to manufacture bamboo flooring for sale in North America, offering its initial product under the brand name Plyboo® in 1993. In 1996 the firm began producing bamboo plywood, followed by coconut palm flooring and plywood products in 2000. Today, the company’s products are distributed and sold throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and the Middle East. Smith & Fong is committed to sustainability through innovation.
