Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management and automation, today unveiled Smart Systems, a communication solution for asset management and energy monitoring in low voltage power distribution equipment.  The system is designed to remove the complexity of connected electrical distribution devices and help customers reduce downtime, manage energy use, and improve operational efficiency. Smart Systems clearly presents real time and historical trending data, allowing facility managers to easily manage and monitor both building energy use and electrical system status anytime. With an innovative plug-and-play design, Smart Systems offers simple, intuitive information to facility managers, enabling smarter decisions for asset and energy management.
Smart Systems helps facility managers maintain and improve reliability and efficiency while managing flat budgets and increasingly complex buildings. It takes advantage of the Internet of Things to enable a convergence of building systems including HVAC, lighting, and energy management systems into a centralized hub. This convergence has the potential to provide facility personnel with more intelligent building data, driving greater insight into the building operations.
“Smart Systems represents the future of Schneider Electric, and Square D electrical distribution and solutions offerings,” said Aamir Paul, Senior Vice President, Retail and Partner Projects, Schneider Electric. “Schneider Electric’s Square D low voltage electrical distribution equipment can now communicate data and information in real-time, allowing for smarter asset and energy management.”
Smart Systems enables local or remote monitoring of Square D Masterpact and PowerPact with Micrologic circuit breakers, as well as a variety of other power distribution and monitoring devices, such as drives and power meters. The solution uses a direct Ethernet architecture for simplified connection to individual devices, such as circuit breakers that allows for remote monitoring of assets at the device level. It has the ability to pinpoint problem areas and opportunities and address them immediately via alarming and diagnostics.
With Smart Systems, embedded web pages offer direct access to energy, status information and control features. Facility managers can simply go to a URL address to read data and set programmable alarms to alert them via email if there is an issue. The alerts can be set to notify the facility’s electrical contractor or other service provider if help is needed.
Smart Systems is now available in Schneider Electric’s Square D PZ4 and QED6 Switchgear. It will be available in the Square D I-Line and QED2 products later this year. Smart Systems can be purchased wherever Square D electrical distribution products are sold, through channel partners or directly from Schneider Electric.
