Engineering News-Record recognized Roofing Solutions as the recipient of the Best Specialty Project award during a Dec. 8 awards luncheon at the JW Marriott in Houston. The award was presented for the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas Re-Roof in New Orleans. The project was one of only 17 across Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas designated as best in their category during ENR‘s regional Best Projects competition. An independent panel of judges, representing diverse fields of expertise, honored only those projects and project teams that found creative solutions to unique, daunting or often unforeseen challenges. During the aquarium project, Roofing Solutions replaced the building’s massive 65,000-square-foot traditional roof with a more sustainable system. The new lightweight, insulating-concrete system has a higher R-value, greater energy efficiency and lower carbon footprint. Throughout construction, Roofing Solutions structured its schedule and workflow to accommodate the nearly 3,000 patrons who visit the aquarium daily, working from highly constricted access points at odd hours while maneuvering around countless skylights, chillers and other mechanical equipment scattered across the roof. Lead design firm on the project was Manning Architects of New Orleans. |
