Rhett Roe has been named the next director of the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) and will take the helm on September 1st. He replaces David McCord who will assume a consulting role into early 2017.
McCord has held the director position for the past 20 years. During that time the JATC has become a nationally recognized electrical apprenticeship program and won the U.S. Department of Labor’s Registered Apprenticeship Trailblazer and Innovation Award.
Roe is a licensed journeyman in Washington, D.C. and Virginia. He has been assistant director at the JATC since 2007 and prior to that, an instructor for 22 years. Roe is also a member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors and a member of code making panel #9 for the National Fire Protection Association National Electric Code.
Roe will lead an accredited electrical apprenticeship program conducted in a state-of-the-art training facility. Graduates of the five-year program earn $84,800 a year plus benefits with no student loans to repay. Their expertise as journeymen electricians is in demand on projects across the Washington, D.C. region and they have the ability to grow in their careers and move into other areas such as JATC instruction, project management, or owning their own business.
The JATC is sponsored by the Electrical Alliance, a cooperative effort between the Washington, D.C. Chapter of National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 26.
