Joe Pobiner, FAICP, CNU-A, has joined Perkins Eastman as Principal in the global architecture and design firm’s Dallas studio. Pobiner brings 40 years of award-winning expertise in master planning and urban design, as well as extensive project experience. He has worked in 42 U.S. states and 32 countries on six continents, with projects that encompass over 255 million acres and share a combined value in excess of $70 billion. Pobiner will be a great asset to Perkins Eastman’s expanding practice in Texas.

With a well-honed awareness and deep passion for sustainable, resilient, and user-focused design, Pobiner lends a thoughtful approach to his work as a planner, always looking to learn and embed the unique characteristics of local cultures, contexts, and design cues of the various cities and countries to which he travels.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of City & Regional Planning degree from The Ohio State University, Pobiner launched his career as an urban planner at a number of top firms in Dallas, TX. He cultivated an impressive portfolio of high-profile projects spanning a variety of markets, including higher education, sports & entertainment, mixed-use, healthcare, corporate, town planning, aviation, and hospitality. Select projects include: NFL stadia for the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, and Minnesota Vikings; the master plan for Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport; comprehensive plans for numerous communities; mixed-use developments throughout Texas and the U.S.; and working with international developers investing in projects in the U.S.

Most recently, Pobiner served as Senior Associate and Regional Practice Leader for Planning & Urban Design at one of the world’s leading design firms. His projects have been celebrated with regional, national, and international awards alike, having been recognized by institutions such as the American Planning Association, the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Urban Land Institute, and the American Institute of Architects.

“Growing our urban design capabilities throughout Texas is important. We continue to build one of our core capabilities with our leadership, and Joe will be an excellent asset to the team,” says Shawn Basler, AIA, Co-CEO and Executive Director of Perkins Eastman.

“It is an incredible opportunity to join a firm where master planning and urban design is not only understood, but embraced and integrated into its very fabric,” says Pobiner. “Perkins Eastman is a firm that I have known for a long time, and I am thrilled that the timing was right to join this group of talented designers.”

Alongside his planning work, Pobiner acts as a Visiting Lecturer and Guest Critic for universities both domestic and abroad, including The Ohio State University, George Mason University, Texas A&M University, the University of West Georgia, and more. He has also served on professional advisory boards at both Ohio State and Texas A&M Universities. In addition, Pobiner has spoken at conferences across the U.S. and as far as South Africa and written articles that have been featured on websites from the U.S. to Australia. In 2012, Ohio State named him a Distinguished Alumnus—one of the few planners to be so honored since the award was established in 1954.

Perkins Eastman is delighted to have him on board.
