With demand for welding training spanning agriculture, manufacturing, motorsports, construction and other industrial sectors, a new Welding Technology program has launched at the Sacramento campus of Universal Technical Institute (UTI), a leading workforce solutions provider of transportation, skilled trades and energy education programs.
“We have the equipment, the expert instructors and the certifications to help students pursue a career as an entry-level welder and fabricator,” said UTI Sacramento Campus President Tess Dubois-Carey. “All western states need to add a trained workforce in today’s construction, pipe and fabrication industries. We’re thrilled to bring this program to Sacramento.”
The Sacramento campus will feature a curriculum developed with Lincoln Electric, a world leader in engineering, design, and manufacturing of advanced arc welding solutions, automated joining, assembly and cutting systems, plasma and oxyfuel cutting equipment and brazing and soldering alloys. Students who complete the program will be trained in multiple forms of welding and applications, using different types of metal transfer as they prepare to work in construction, structural, pipe and fabrication industries.
“This technology is not only a joy to teach, but when students see the application of thermal cutting techniques, they begin to develop, fabricate, and even calculate the costs of projects. They will be well-prepared to enter industry because they will be able to weld using the different equipment in-demand across many industrial sectors,” said Harold Clark, an instructor at UTI Sacramento since 2006.
The 36-week course is accepting enrollment applications today. It requires 501 hours of classroom instruction with 399 hours of hands-on lab coursework completed. Each student will learn four welding processes in their combination welder training including gas metal arc welding (GMAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), flux core welding (FCAW), and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). UTI is an educational institution and cannot guarantee employment or salary, but its Career Services department keeps an active registry of local jobs for students while in school and career entry-level jobs upon graduation.
