In today’s marketplace, maintaining a competitive advantage is no easy task, especially in a long-standing industry, such as construction. Companies must provide innovative, value-enhancing services in order to rise above the competition. Power Design, Inc., a national electrical contractor, celebrates the 10th anniversary of its unique lighting distribution company, Power Design Resources (PDR), this month.
PDR launched in 2005, allowing Power Design to improve the operations and customer service of its core electrical business. PDR operates out of a 100,000-square-foot distribution center in Atlanta, Georgia with a dedicated team of specialists who support Power Design with lighting specification, design and procurement.
This one-of-a-kind facility affords Power Design national buying power and the flexibility to inspect and quality control material prior to jobsite delivery. With the ability to purchase and receive project-specific fixtures in a timely manner, it ensures a project will meet its expected schedule and exceed customer expectations.
“The lighting industry and its supply chain takes experience and savvy to manage,” says Mark Robinson, general manager of PDR. “We have assembled a dynamic team of highly qualified individuals in a competitive market with price-sensitive customers. What Power Design has done in the last 10 years to vertically integrate services within the electrical contracting industry, demonstrates how forward thinking this company is.”
In the past decade, PDR has supplied $100 million in fixtures, including 3.6 million lamps – enough to light-up the Empire State Building.
“This serves as a testament to the success of our vision, providing the quality product and dependable service customers have come to expect,” says Robinson.
With more than 18 years of experience in the lighting industry and a master’s degree in information technology, Robinson has managed PDR since inception – when it was an empty warehouse with four employees using spools of wire for desks. Now, the facility staffs 25 employees with a combined total of 150 years’ experience in the field and plans of further expansion of services in the future.
To celebrate the milestone, Power Design’s executive team traveled from their St. Petersburg, Florida-based headquarters to Atlanta, on June 19, to host a cocktail party for PDR employees at the W Atlanta Downtown hotel.
