It’s a dirty job, but somebody has to do it. Mike Rowe, a champion of essential workers, recently added escalator maintenance to his resume as part of the all-new season of the fan-favorite series DIRTY JOBS, available on Discovery and discovery+. Rowe joined Schindler Technicians Scott Pumper and Roger Weber on the job cleaning an escalator at the University of Minnesota’s 3M Arena at Mariucci, where the university’s Golden Gophers play hockey.
In an episode that aired Sunday, Jan. 30, Pumper and Weber put Rowe to work cleaning the escalator, which moves the university’s 45,000 students – and thousands of hockey fans – throughout the season. From powering the escalator on and off, to removing the stairs and getting down and dirty in the escalator pit, Rowe received a firsthand education in the physical demand and complexity of escalator maintenance and expressed a new appreciation for the vital role of safety.
The episode shines a spotlight on the hard-working men and women of the vertical transportation industry, including their tireless, essential efforts to keep people moving safely and smoothly.
The popular franchise, which first aired on Discovery from 2005 to 2013 and rebooted as a limited series (DIRTY JOBS: ROW’D TRIP), shows Mike back in action as he showcases the unsung heroes of this country.
The episode is currently available on-demand on discovery+. Viewers can engage with content related to the episode on Schindler’s social media channels, including Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram.
