Jeffrey A. Raday, P.E., President of McShane Construction Company, is pleased to announce that the firm has completed The Shops and Lofts at 47 mixed-use development on behalf of The Community Builders, Inc. and Mahogany Ventures, a joint venture of the Skilken company and TROY Enterprises. Situated on a three-acre parcel at 747 East 47th Street in Chicago, Illinois, the new development provides mixed-income living options and premier retail opportunities within Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood.
The completion and grand opening of the 202,000 square foot residential and retail complex was recently celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by local officials, project personnel and community residents.
McShane Construction completed the five-story development that includes 55,000 square feet of retail space on the first floor, featuring a new 41,000 square foot Walmart Neighborhood Market. The second floor of the property incorporates parking for 72 vehicles supporting the 72-unit mixed-income residences situated on floors three through five. As part of the project, McShane Construction also completed 24 additional apartment units situated in four residential flats adjacent to the new development.
The Shops and Lofts at 47 includes a total of 96 rental apartment units featuring 29 one-, 60 two-, and seven three-bedroom floor plans. Each residence features contemporary kitchen appliances, in-unit washers and dryers and modern fixtures and design elements. The project’s sitework including landscaping, sidewalks and an 85-car parking lot for retail customers was also completed by McShane Construction Company. The development was constructed to meet Chicago Green Homes certification and meets the parameters of the Chicago Green Roof initiative.
“We are pleased to deliver this Class A mixed-use development to our respected clients and to the community residents of Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood,” remarked Raday. “With McShane Construction’s extensive experience serving the mixed-income residential and retail markets, we were able to successfully transform an under-performing area of the community into a vibrant housing and retail venue.”
Pappageorge Haymes Partners served as architect for the mixed-use portion of the development while BRR Architecture, Inc. provided the architectural services for the Walmart Neighborhood Market.
