Leviton today announced a new line of Type 1 and Type 2 surge protective panels in the most common voltage configurations, providing solutions for various applications from residential to commercial and industrial. With improved surge protection and environmental ratings, these new panels deliver industry-leading performance.

“Our priority is to provide customers with advanced solutions and the knowledge needed to effectively safeguard their systems,” said Tony Pulsonetti, director of product management, Leviton Commercial & Industrial. “Surge devices vary by type depending on the area they protect and where they are installed. Understanding how these layers work together is key for complete surge protection.”

By using the new panels alongside Leviton’s existing surge protected breakers, receptacles, and power strips, customers can have Type 1, 2, and 3 protection for valuable assets and critical equipment from the service panel outside the home or building to the point of use.

A major benefit of the new surge panels is that they are compliant with Article 230.67 of the National Electrical Code® (NEC). This article, introduced in the 2020 NEC, added a requirement for all services supplying dwelling units to be provided with a surge protective device (SPD), as an integral part of equipment or located immediately adjacent. The SPD must be Type 1 or Type 2. The 2023 NEC expanded upon Article 230.67 expanding “dwelling units” requiring an SPD to include dormitory units, guest rooms and suites of hotels and motels, as well as areas of nursing homes and limited-care facilities used exclusively as patient sleeping rooms.

The launch includes the R, P, B, M, and X Series, featuring NEMA 4 or 4X outdoor ratings and offering a range of solutions from compact and easily installed panels tailored for residential use, to cutting-edge panels featuring LCD screens and advanced functionalities such as surge counting and performance monitoring for industrial use.
