Architecture firm LEO A DALY received an Honor Award for its design for The Toro Company’s corporate headquarters in Bloomington, MN. This is the third year in a row the firm’s Minneapolis office has won an award from AIA Minnesota, a society of the American Institute of Architects.
LEO A DALY’s winning design is for a 75,000 square-foot expansion of The Toro Company’s worldwide headquarters in Bloomington, MN. It begins the process of expanding the research, development and testing operations needed for Toro’s cutting-edge equipment. Interiors contain space for offices, conferencing, training, and team collaboration, while the exterior spaces serve as a testing ground and demonstration landscape. The design engages the environment through the use of windowed passageways that incorporate the company’s innovative history, and a purposeful use of green roofs that demonstrate Toro’s drip irrigation and water conservation technology.
“The AIA Honor Award is one of the highest tributes an architect can receive, and it’s even more humbling to be chosen within such a distinguished field of colleagues,” said Bill Baxley, Design Director for LEO A DALY. “We share this honor with the fantastic people we worked with at The Toro Company.”
“The building has this transparency and depth. It makes it a beautiful place to work, and you feel really connected to the landscape,” said juror Angela Brooks, FAIA, of Brooks + Scarpa.
“The Honor Awards, a tribute to architectural excellence, encourage a high level of architecture, recognize the clients and architects who have distinguished themselves, and informs the public of these important architectural contributions,” said AIA Minnesota in a press release.
The prize, which was awarded at the 80th AIA Minnesota Annual Convention and Exhibition, recognizes architectural excellence among local architects. A jury consisting of principals from three nationally recognized architecture firms reviewed 73 honor award submissions to decide on eight winners.
