The Indiana Department of Labor announced today that Korellis Inc. of Hammond, Ind., is a certified participant in the Indiana Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program.

Korellis Inc. is now part of a select group of employers recognized with the INSHARP certification for exceeding occupational safety and health expectations, and demonstrated commitment to the well-being of Hoosier workers.

“The accomplishments made by Korellis, Inc. are incredible,” said Joe Hoage, commissioner of the Indiana Department of Labor. “Construction, roofing in particular, is a very hazardous industry. They have truly made safety and health priorities in their business culture. The leadership and dedication shown by the management and employees at Korellis have cast them among some of the most elite companies in Indiana.”

The INSHARP program is part of the federal Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program and is administered by the state’s DOL INSafe division. The program serves to give recognition and support to small Hoosier businesses with exemplary safety and health programs. Currently, there are 49 INSHARP sites statewide.

“The construction industry is still dangerous even when you do everything right,” said Korellis Chief Executive Officer Pete Korellis. “In order for me to have peace of mind, I need to honestly know we have trained everyone to the highest standards in our industry to minimize the risk of an accident. I tell our team members, ‘I want to send everyone home at the end of the day in the same physical condition that they came to work in the morning, except for being a little more tired.’”

Korellis Inc, formerly Korellis Roofing, has been in business since 1960.  The company provides roofing installation, sheet metal, wall paneling, masonry, and carpentry services and support for commercial and industrial projects. They have worked on thousands of buildings including churches, schools, office buildings, steel mills, properties for the Department of Energy, and even casinos.
