James Hardie HardieBacker cement board is a 1/4′ underlayment for kitchen and bathroom walls and floors to protect against mold and moisture. Composed of 90 percent Portland cement and sand, HardieBacker does not contain asbestos, glass mesh, formaldehyde or gypsum. No special tools are required to install HardieBacker cement board—just “score and snap” upward. HardieBacker is fire-resistant and passes industry-standard ASTM certifications for mold resistance.
