IKEA will open a Kansas City, Mo.-area store in Merriam, Kan., according to the Kansas Star. The store, slated to open in fall 2014, will increase the Swedish retailer’s presence in the Midwest. The company also operates stores in the region in Centennial, Colo.; Frisco, Texas; Bloomington, Minn.; and Bolingbrook and Schaumburg, Ill. Plans for 359,000-square-foot IKEA Merriam include nearly 10,000 exclusively designed items, 50 inspirational room-settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area and a 450-seat restaurant.
