How Do You Block Out Road Noise?

If you live near a busy street or highway, you know how annoying the road noise could be. You can try installing soundproofing materials such as acoustic foam, but they are costly. Luckily, there are cheaper yet equally effective options.
DIY enthusiast and low deposit home loans specialist Hannah Wilson of Bowen Property Centre says, ‘’Soundproofing your home is essential to make your home life peaceful and comfortable. Blocking out road noise becomes even more important now that most of us are working from home. There are multiple ways to do so, but roller shutters are my personal favorite.’’
From roller shutters to solid doors, your method of blocking out the road noise does not have to be complicated. To help you better understand, here is a list of possible options to help you soundproof your home and sleep better at night.

1. Roller Shutters

Roller shutters are the prime choice of most homeowners. When you pass by residences along the highway, you will notice that most, if not, all of them are using roller blinds.
Most people choose roller blinds not only because of their appeal but also because of their functionality. These blinds are thick enough to deflect car noises, deafening sounds, and harsh light.
In addition, dynamic roller shutters are beneficial since they are insulated with foam, helping you block out intense heat. By preventing outside heat from seeping into your home, you will see a significant decrease in your electric bill.

2. Solid Doors

Another option is to replace your door with a thicker, more solid door. Thicker doors block undesirable noise better and add a significant amount of protection to your home.

3. Soundproofing Curtains

Soundproofing curtains share a similar function with roller shutters. These curtains are thick, which helps keep all loud noises and bright lights out while increasing your privacy and security.
The difference between roller shutters and soundproofing curtains is adjustability. You can only move soundproofing curtains to the side, which still takes up space.

4. Double Or Triple Glazed Windows

Your windows are some of the thinnest parts of your home, which allows more noise to enter. By doubling or tripling the panes of glass, your windows will be able to block more noise. In addition, thicker windows provide better insulation and security to your household.

5. Put Up A Wall Or Fence

A high-quality noise reduction fence or a brick wall can provide excellent soundproofing to your home since soundwaves will bounce off of them better. To improve their performance and increase your privacy, you can add tall garden plants next to them.

Soundproof Your Home Or Commercial Space Effectively

Blocking the road noise is crucial to maintaining a healthy sleeping schedule, a productive workday, and an enjoyable time with your family. You have a myriad of options, and you can use them all at the same time for better effect.
