Hotels averaged a 65.5% occupancy rate in the US in 2016 – the highest occupancy rate ever recorded for a year – despite the new supply entering the pipeline, according to STR. There are 183,000 hotel rooms under construction in the US, a 30% increase from 2015, and STR forecasts that occupancy will drop slightly this year by 0.5%.
