Cy Jolliffe, of Independence, OH, was recently awarded an academic scholarship from The Garland Company, Inc., a full-service roofing manufacturer and building envelope solution provider based in Cleveland, Ohio. The scholarship will help defray expenses related to Jolliffe’s pursuit of a degree in Construction Management at The University of Akron.

 The Garland scholarship was created in 2020 to honor the company’s 125^th anniversary. Children of Garland employee-owners attending an accredited college or university are encouraged to apply. To ensure a fair selection, applications are submitted with names redacted and evaluated by a committee from an outside third party. Each year’s award amount coincides with the number of years Garland has been in business. This year’s scholarship amount was $12,900; the company was founded in 1895. 

 Jolliffe is the son of Jeff and Angela Jolliffe; Angela is the credit manager at Garland. Cy Jolliffe spent two years of secondary education at the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center, studying the construction trades. In his winning essay, he expressed the desire to create structures “that are not only safe and durable, but also enhance the quality of life for the occupants.”
