FK Architecture, a Fugleberg Koch Company, is pleased to announce its work on Ekos Magnolia Oaks, an affordable housing complex in northwest Florida, which will provide housing to households making between 33-60% of the Area Medium Income. A ribbon-cutting commemorating the opening of Ekos Magnolia Oaks will take place on September 12. The developer is McDowell Housing Partners.
The $24-million, 110-unit project is located on a 7-acre parcel in Tallahassee. The complex will entail five buildings offering individual floor plans from one to three bedrooms: 30 one-bedroom homes, 65 two-bedroom, and 15 three-bedroom units. Granite kitchen countertops and LVP flooring are among each unit’s features, along with walk-in closets and hookups for washer/dryer units. As urbanization rapidly continues, Tallahassee requested that Ekos Magnolia Oaks be inter-connected to the city.
Communal amenities include a clubhouse with a media center, fitness center, game room, and outdoor covered terrace overlooking the swimming pool. The five residential buildings surround a spacious inner courtyard offering a playground and recreation lawn. To address the considerable topographical changes inherent to the site, the residential buildings are stepped down along their length, and the site retaining walls had to be utilized to maintain an accessible route throughout.
“It was important to fashion a community where people not only live but socialize,” said FK’s Rajiv Ramakrishnan, who served as Project Manager for the development. “Projects such as Ekos Magnolia Oaks help to increase that sense of community, which is a goal for us here at FK Architecture.”
Ted Hunton will be on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“We are very proud of our work on Ekos Magnolia Oaks,” said FK Architecture Managing Principal Ted Hunton. “This development aligns with our firm’s mission to collaborate with the owner to assist in creating safe, sustainable environments that are designed to be visually pleasing while providing a sense of community for the residents and pushing for sensible, cost-effective, and durable solutions necessary for long-term management and ownership.”
