Space is a premium in every household, and if you happen to have a small bedroom, you know it’s a problem. You must try to make it look and feel cosy enough so you can make it liveable. No one wants to live in a small space that doesn’t look and feel right. It’s a challenge for homemakers how they can make a small area stand out.

Interior designers and decorators understand such a dilemma. They have several tricks and tips that can make any small space look gorgeous. These tips typically don’t cost much, but they affect the ambience tremendously. In fact, if you don’t want to work with a contractor, you can roll up your sleeves and do most of the things they recommend.

Here are some things you can look into to make your small bedroom look spacious.

Start with the right paint job

Choose light colors for your paint. Avoid choosing dark paint because dark hues make spaces look confined. Dark paint absorbs more light. Lighter colors reflect light which makes you think the area is bigger than it really is. You can add subtle touches around the edges or the trims but make sure that most of the space has light-colored paint.

You can use a monochromatic paint scheme while using a bold and different paint scheme for the ceilings. This will create an illusion of height even if you have low ceilings.

Use space-saving furniture

Another way to make your space look bigger is to use space-saving furniture such as a fitted wardrobe. Have a contractor build you such a fixture so you can maximize the space within the area. This can help you save space and streamline the room design. The lesser the number of furniture in the room, the better it would be.

You can maximize space even more if you put shelving around the bed and make the bed recessed a little bit.

Keep bedding low to the ground

One of the secrets to making the bedroom look bigger is to keep the bed low to the ground. This creates the illusion of more space in the room. This also makes the wall and ceiling look cleaner and higher.

Decorate properly

Among the tricks decorators suggest to create the illusion of space is to hang decor closer to the ceiling or to the floor. Instead of putting decorations in the middle space, you must instead use the rule of thirds so you can hang pictures on the upper third or lower third of the grid.

Hang mirrors on the walls

If you want to make the space appear bigger, you can hang mirrors on the walls. These will reflect light and make the area feel and look much bigger than they are. They can also be a good focal point which can be a good conversation starter.

Endnote

If you have a small bedroom and you wish to make it look bigger, you can use several tricks and tips from veteran decorators. These tips can help you make a small area feel and look much larger than it really is.
