WHO?: Packaging and Crating Technologies (PACT®), a Connecticut-based manufacturer specializing in safe packaging, transporting, and recycling solutions for all electronic devices containing lithium-ion batteries.

WHAT?: Urges the proper disposal of cell phones on International Mobile Phone Recycling Day, a celebration that encourages effective ways to protect the environment by eliminating E-waste and other harmful components found in iPhones and androids that can pollute the environment, hurt animals and damage water sources.

Founded in 2015 by The Jane Goodall Institute, the annual commemoration was established to raise awareness about the negative impacts of smartphone consumerism on the primate wildlife population in Congo and other developing countries.  Further, the Institute has highlighted how major technology companies receive crucial metals for their products from mines in African countries. Some of the money is used to fund the region’s ongoing violent conflicts, which have resulted in large casualties, increased criminality, and environmental degradation.

WHEN?:

WHERE?: Interviews available upon request

WHY?: As a global manufacturer of fire-suppressant products, PACT’s mission is to continually spotlight safety as the importance of lithium-ion batteries in every industry, from personal use to national security, continues to grow.  PACT’s patented solutions to prevent thermal runaway range from PACT® Thermo ShieldTM, a lightweight, paper material, to its new TR SleeveTM for safe transportation of personal electronic devices, TR EnvelopeTM for cell phones, to the PACT Lion-XTM fire extinguisher, a pre-mixed, proprietary formulation that quenches lithium-ion fires within 30 seconds.
