Crowne Plaza/Los Angeles International Airport recently progressed from Bronze to Silver level certification based on Green Seal’s Sustainability Leadership Standard for Hotels & Lodging Properties among the most stringent sustainability standards for hotels in today’s marketplace.
The Crowne Plaza is one of 7 hotels in the Los Angeles Green Lodging Program. Green Seal is the City’s official certifier of green lodging and is working with the LA Department of Public Works, Bureau of Sanitation and Tourism & Convention Board to ensure that hotels within Los Angeles operate in a sustainable way.
“Hotels across the globe are embracing green practices in response to an increasing demand for green lodging by customers”, said Arthur B. Weissman, Ph.D., President and CEO of Green Seal. Dr. Weissman continued, “The Crowne Plaza has demonstrated its commitment to being a sustainability leader not only by implementing green measures, but by finding ways to expand on them by adding new practices to its list of environmental achievements.”
The Crowne Plaza reached Silver status by instituting such measures as using refillable amenities, installing on/off timers for lighting and air conditioning, and developing an Environmental Purchasing Policy that includes purchasing non-toxic products and using paper products made with recycled content. According to Paul Gibbs, the Crown Plaza’s General Manager, “After the initial success of our partnership with Green Seal, it only made sense to take our sustainability initiatives to the next level. We are extremely proud of our team’s continuous commitment towards a healthier, safer environment.”
