Non-farm payrolls were up 252,000 in December, according to today’s data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This was above economists’ expectations of around 240,000. The construction sector added 48,000 jobs, while architectural and engineering services added 5,000. The unemployment rate fell from 5.8 percent to 5.6 percent.
