Following the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) Board of Trustees’ unanimous approval of the Progressive Design-Build team, Carrier Johnson + Culture (CJ+C), an award-winning interdisciplinary design firm, is honored to serve as Architect for the new site of the San Diego College of Continuing Education (SDCCE). CJ+C is partnering with Hensel Phelps on the District’s Progressive Design-Build team, serving as Architect for the new site. Selected from a field of 13 competing teams, the approximately $100 million project is funded through Measure HH, the $3.5 billion bond program approved by San Diego voters in November 2024. An initial $7.9 million has been authorized for Phase 1 planning and design.
The new site reflects the District’s commitment to expanding access to education, strengthening workforce development, and supporting lifelong learning throughout the communities it serves. The College of Continuing Education provides tuition-free education and career training that empowers students to achieve their educational and career goals. The new campus will support Business Information Technology, Nursing, Culinary Arts, Emeritus, Student Services, and flexible learning environments designed to meet evolving educational and workforce needs.
“We are honored to partner with the San Diego Community College District and Hensel Phelps in delivering this important investment in education and opportunity,” said Marin Gertler, Chief Design Officer at Carrier Johnson + Culture. “The District has established a clear vision for expanding access to education, strengthening workforce development, and supporting student success. Our role is to help bring that vision to life by creating a welcoming, flexible campus that serves students today while adapting to the evolving needs of future generations and the communities the College serves.”
Planning and design activities are expected to begin immediately. For additional information and project updates, visit www.sdccd.edu/departments/operations/measurehh/index.aspx.
