Canstruction for food banks exhibit days

Canstruction Santa Monica has partnered with both Meals on Wheels West and the Westside Food Bank – they will receive 100% of the non-perishable food used in the construction of Canstruction. Canstruction Santa Monica will generate thousands of pounds of food for our community this year.
The competition will be held the first two weeks of November, 2019 in the lobbies of Water Garden at 1620 26th Street in Santa Monica.
It’s a festive event that challenges design teams to out create each other. It involves the community in judging and participation, and benefits the local food banks. Please let me know if you would like to cover this story and capture this year’s designs.

Sequence of events and specs

Week of 10/28, cans and infrastructure delivered to Water Garden to be stored in vacant space until Build Night
11/1 Build Night: media invited
- Arrival time 7PM
- Cans and structures moved to lobby
- Friends and colleagues invited to stop by to see the action
11/2 judging and awards reception, start time 4PM (RSVPs for reception Due 10/25)
Canstructures on display through 11/15
- Theme “it’s all fun and games at the beach”
- Awards to be given
  - Best Meal
  - Structural Ingenuity
  - Best Original Design
  - Best Labels
  - People’s Choice
  - Most Cans
- Each team gets Ralph’s/Food 4 Less gift cards for $1000
- Any money leftover on the gift card is returned as a donation to the Foodbank and Meals on Wheels
