Ambius, a global leader in interior landscaping, was recently honored with an International Plantscape Award for its living green wall installation at the Boston Museum of Science. The team designed and installed two living plant walls, covering 563 square feet with nearly 3,500 plants as part of the Yawkey Gallery on the Charles River exhibit.
The exhibit brings natural elements from the Charles River, located just outside the museum’s windows, into the three-story main entrance with a 30-foot waterfall flanked by the floor-to-ceiling living walls, along with a kinetic water sculpture and water habitats for species of fish and turtles that are native to the Charles River.
The installation was spearheaded by Ambius and Chelsea Murphy, exhibit director at the Boston Museum of Science.. The project incorporates nine plant species that mimic the natural foliage of the river environment and has been a major draw for museum visitors. The Charles River exhibit encourages scientific observation of the intersection of human engineering and the natural world and educates visitors on the many ways humans interact with the river environment.
