![]() AIA Atlanta, the Atlanta chapter of the American Institute of Architects, proudly announces the appointment of David Southerland as its new executive director. Southerland, who also serves as executive director of AIA Georgia, brings to AIA Atlanta a profound background in nonprofit management, strategic marketing, transportation and design. Under his new leadership, the organization aims to foster public awareness, strengthen its continuing education component, increase local political advocacy and develop future leadership. “I couldn’t be more excited to work for members of AIA Atlanta,” said Southerland. “Architects are one of the few professions trained to see and leverage how issues, topics and systems work together. I hope I can help members utilize their special perspectives to raise the status of the profession, and to bring their skills to bear in improving broader community design and function across the state.” Born in Atlanta, Southerland earned from the Georgia Institute of Technology a bachelor’s degree in management and a master’s in organization development from Georgia State University.
