Able Engineering Services (Able), a division of Able Services, announced today that it has reached an agreement to acquire Hill Mechanical Operations (Hill), the stationary engineering company of The Hill Group.ย  The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
With more than 17,000 employees servicing over one billion square feet of real estate, Able Services provides stationary engineering, janitorial, and building operations to all classes of commercial real estate and facilities across the U.S. This acquisition will expand Ableโ€™s Chicago reach to more than 100 million square feet of commercial assets and more than 1,000 operating engineers.ย  Able will also increase its Chicago presence in market segments such as higher education, hospitality, and health care, while rounding out its already robust corporate real estate portfolio.
โ€œThe acquisition furthers our dedication to Chicago and the Midwest,โ€ said Paul Saccone, CEO, Able Services. โ€œHill shares our commitment to excellent customer service, exceptional quality, and attracting and retaining Chicagoโ€™s top engineering talent.ย  Through this acquisition, weโ€™ll combine Hillโ€™s energy and mechanical services expertise with Ableโ€™s world-class team of operating engineering experts, creating one of the strongest engineering teams in the Midwest.โ€
Based in Chicago, the Hill Group specializes in construction, stationary engineering, mechanical service, energy services, and fire protection, all with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability.ย  Ableโ€™s acquisition will provide Hill customers with access to a national engineering services provider with strong local expertise and a number of differentiated service offerings, including: technologically-advanced operating systems, value pricing, and award winning janitorial and green services, to name a few.
Jack Oโ€™Rourke, vice president of Able Engineering Services, will continue to manage the companyโ€™s Midwest region. ย Hillโ€™s management team will transition to Able, maintaining their current roles and will provide a seamless transition to the existing customer base.
โ€œThis was the right time and right decision for us as a company.ย  As a result of this transaction, Hill Mechanical Operations can grow under the Able Services umbrella and provide our customers with amenities that would not have been possible before,โ€ said Jim Hill, The Hill Group.ย  โ€œUnder the continued leadership of our management team, and with access to Ableโ€™s breadth of resources and expertise, we have every confidence that our customers will be well positioned now and in the future.โ€
Since entering the Chicago market, Able has consistently retained more than 98 percent of its customers and 98 percent of its employees.ย  Ableโ€™s track record of excellent customer service, technical expertise and leadership in sustainable building operations has been widely recognized by the industry, with accolades including ENERGY STAR Service and Product Provider (SPP) Partner, BOMA 360 Ambassador and ENERGY STAR SPP Partner of the Year (Goby LLC), among others.
