Integrated design-build firm The Beck Group has started work on its multi-million-dollar renovation of UCHealth Poudre Valley Hospital, a 303-bed regional medical center in Fort Collins, Colo. The Beck Group is the project’s general contractor.
Poudre Valley Hospital is part of Aurora, Colo.-based UCHealth’s network of healthcare facilities serving parts of Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming.
The hospital’s $76.5 million renovation project is scheduled for completion in summer 2023. The renovation includes an estimated 142,000 SF of space or about one-third of the hospital.
Poudre Valley Hospital awarded the contract to Beck after more than two years of performing pre-construction work on the project, its earlier construction projects for the hospital, and its extensive expertise in healthcare facility design and construction.
Matt Archuletta, Project Executive at Beck’s Denver office, commented: “We are thrilled that Poudre Valley Hospital selected our firm for this major renovation. For several years, Beck made critical renovations to the hospital that have helped it retain its ranking as one of the top healthcare providers in this region. This latest project is designed to further enhance Poudre Valley Hospital’s reputation as a next-generation healthcare facility for its patients.”
Mr. Archuletta added: “This project is also of great importance to our firm. Not only does it give us the opportunity to work with the hospital. It allows us to continue to make a positive impact on our community, reflecting our long-standing commitment to building safe and healthy buildings in the areas we serve.”
The hospital’s transformation is the latest in a series of upgrades for the nearly century-old facility, ranging from small retrofitting projects and adjustments to significant expansions. The new project focuses on making various improvements to the hospital’s interior and exterior to enhance patient care and experience significantly.
Interior work on the hospital’s first floor will use empty space formerly the emergency department site, which was relocated elsewhere. This will include building a new heart and vascular care clinic and testing area, upgrading surgical, imaging, gastroenterology and pulmonary areas, hallways, and relocating the gift and coffee shops and chapel.
The floor’s renovation also includes building a larger lobby area with new seating options, a fireplace and an information desk.
The third-floor renovation will refresh the hospital’s birthing center, the women’s care unit and pediatric care areas, patient recovery areas and other spaces, along with adding new equipment. The work will also relocate nurses’ stations.
Plans also call for new signage, a new canopy at the main entrance, and a redesigned traffic flow on the south side of the hospital’s campus. These features will make the hospital’s main entrance more inviting and functional. The exterior renovation also includes the replacement of the building’s exterior walls and windows.
