Why is suicide rate for construction workers high

National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month & National Suicide Prevention Week (Sep. 5-11).
The construction industry suffers as one of the highest occupational risk groups for suicides:

  • While the national suicide rate for men was 27.4 individuals in 100,000 people, the construction industry has a rate of 49.4 in 100,000 individuals.
  • Women in construction are three times more likely to commit suicide compared to the national average.
  • 26% of opioid-related overdose deaths came from the construction industry

In order to spread awareness, Workwear Guru, by asking the experts, put together a resource about the unique challenges workers face in construction that lead to suicide and what we can do to prevent it: https://workwearguru.com/construction-workers-suicide-rates/.
