A 591-mile natural gas pipeline will be built in the Southeast, passing through Alabama, Georgia and Florida and bringing gas from the shale area. Florida Power & Light has entered into transportation contracts to bring the gas to its customers, and the state Public Service Commission has approved those contracts. In addition, the commission said FPL could recoup from its customers “$15 billion for gas transportation costs alone over the 25 to 40 years after the pipeline goes into service.” Construction of the $3.5 billion line is a joint venture and is expected to create 6,600 jobs.
