McCarthy Building Companies (McCarthy), a leading nationwide general contractor, achieved the concrete topping out milestone on the $335M Colburn School campus expansion in Downtown Los Angeles. The new 100,000 square foot Colburn Center will be located adjacent to the world-class performance center which opened in 1988. This milestone follows the steel topping out, which took place in July.
Thus far, McCarthy has placed 14,374 cubic yards of concrete and amassed over 228K working hours. Some notable features of the new Frank-Gehry designed Colburn Center include:
-
A new 1,000-seat in-the-round concert hall named for Terri and Jerry Kohl Hall
-
A 100-seat theater for dance performances
-
Four professional-sized studios for dance instruction and rehearsal
-
A rooftop garden that will be large enough to host receptions and outdoor performances
-
A ground-level garden with a dedicated performance space that will be open to the public.
