New Look Fashion, Film Hub in Brooklyn

Made in NYC 021917
The Mayor of New York has announced a $136 million transformation of Brooklyn’s industrial waterfront to create The Made in NY Campus, a film/fashion hub masterplan by WXY architecture + urban design, re-envisioning the existing warehouses and public spaces connecting them.
The project, conceived the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), will create 300,000 square feet of new garment manufacturing and film/television production spaces at Bush Terminal in Sunset Park. To support this program, WXY is providing NYCEDC with master planning and conceptual design services.
WXY architecture + urban design, a leading U.S. firm in new, job-creating urban projects, developed the large-scale planning strategy for the site in order to maximize quality manufacturing space and jobs. Pedestrian-friendly streetscape improvements and new plaza spaces will add curb appeal to NYCEDC’s assets and provide an enhanced sense of place for tenant companies and community members.

ABOUT THE LOCATION
Sunset Park is a diverse neighborhood and industrial hub on the waterfront in southwest Brooklyn. The Sunset Park District Plan, led by NYCEDC, is a comprehensive planning and investment strategy that aims to renovate aging infrastructure and increase job-intensive industrial uses. The Made in NY Campus at Bush Terminal and Brooklyn Army Terminal are two of the District’s active industrial campuses, and are home to hundreds of businesses and approximately 5,000 jobs.
WXY architecture + urban design was contracted by NYCEDC to undertake campus access, circulation and activation planning for both campuses. The firm is also involved in designing priority urban design improvements at Brooklyn Army Terminal in anticipation of a new Citywide Ferry Service stop that will open there this summer. One of NYCEDC’s goals in modernizing the area’s facilities and enhancing the urban fabric is to attract more industrial businesses and quality jobs to Sunset Park.
The expansion of Bush Terminal follows New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s $115 million investment in Brooklyn Army Terminal, which will bring 500,000 square feet of new industrial space online in September 2017.
