Before we get into the thick of Halloween decorating, Handyman Connection – North America’s premier business liaison connecting customers to local craftsmen in their home community – offers some helpful tips to avoid dangerous, and potentially gruesome, DIY home improvement mistakes.
Halloween can be a scary time with ghosts, vampires, and goblins running about, but Handyman Connection knows that personal injuries can be even scarier…
Here are some of their top safety recommendations for homeowners looking to improve their residences this Halloween season:
- Always wear protection: This is a scare you do not want to have. When working on a DIY home improvement project, wear eye protection, a face mask, closed shoes, have your hair tied back, and do not wear loose clothing to avoid injury or accidents. When using saws or loud equipment, wear ear protection as well.
- Use quality materials: DIY is advantageous because you can save money by eliminating the cost of labor. You will want to take your time and see what materials are worth their price—pick something that is durable and will last.
- Test your materials: Losing money on a DIY project can be a scary thing. If you are refinishing some furniture, it is important to test out the stains, or paint you will be using, in small out of sight places or on scraps of the same wood.
- Secure your worksite: If using power equipment or handling heavy objects, ensure that your workspace is clear of any ghouls, goblins, or children playing in the area.
These are just a fraction of the tips that Handyman Connection’s team of experienced craftsman have to offer to keep you safe.
