If you’re taking on your own construction or renovation project, you need the essentials to get the job done right. Depending on what your project is, there will be specific things you will need. It’s important that you do your research into this before you begin, to avoid delays and mistakes. Here are some items that you are most likely to need for your construction project.

1.    Good Insulation

If you’re building a home — or even an extension — it’s very important that you insulate it properly. Not only will this have an impact on your energy usage, having high-quality insulation in your property will help prevent other problems such as damp. There are many different materials you can use for this, therefore finding the right insulation for you shouldn’t be an issue.

2.   Concrete Mixer

Hiring a concrete mixer for your construction will be highly useful. To avoid the concrete setting, it needs to be constantly moving which is why these mixers are so useful. Although you can mix the concrete by hand, that will be a long and tedious task for whoever has to do it. It’s certainly worth the investment and will make life a lot easier on the construction site.

3.   Quality Timber

Woodwork is another important part of the construction process, with many people using the material as the frame of their homes. It’s affordable and durable, but this is why it is important to invest in high-quality timber for your project. Oak, pine and fir are common choices for the framework in home construction.

4.   Finishes

For the more cosmetic side of the project, you will want to think about what kind of finishes you will want to have. These are things like varnishes, or clear epoxy resins (these also work as strong adhesives). This will help to bring the room together and make it feel complete. These can be applied to any wooden panelling or fixtures, mosaic and other ceramic details.

5.   Damp Protection

The last thing anyone wants in their home is a problem with damp. Not only can this lead to structural issues with the property, but it can also be the cause of health issues for the residents. Make sure you pay attention to this detail and invest in good damp proofing materials. Common ones include: butyl rubber, bituminous felts and asphalt.

6.   Measuring Wheel

Alternative devices to a tape measure, these wheels can be incredibly useful on site. They are better than tape measures as you don’t require a second person to hold one end down when measuring a large area, nor are they restricted by the length of the tape itself. It’s recommended that you have both at hand on your construction site for the best of both worlds.
Of course, the list of essentials is far more extensive that the one above, but these are just a few things you will need to think about. If you haven’t done this sort of work before, it’s advisable to seek guidance from a more experienced individual before you begin.
