Interior Design isn’t just making a space prettier or more visually pleasing. It’s more than just grabbing ideas from Pinterest, magazines, or random designs you encounter as you scroll through various social media platforms. Yes, the idea of making the space beautiful is part of the design process, but it is more than just that.
There are other factors to consider and aspects to pay attention to in order for a space to be completely beneficial and suited to its users. One of these is a space’s functionality. Here are four features that you can incorporate into your commercial interior to make it more functional.

1.   Door Selection

It is said that the most functional and efficient door is one that you’d use without even realizing that you’ve used it. In commercial interiors, people are busy and traffic is most of the time heavy. Doors must not hinder the traffic flow or decrease the productivity of the employees. There are different kinds of doors that one can choose from.
Before deciding, it’s important to keep in mind where it will be used and what kind of environment it will be interacting with. There are many commercial sliding or swing doors currently available in the market for space-saving or easy access purposes. Some commercial properties also opt for the use of revolving doors for their entrances as to not interrupt the traffic flow.

2.   Flexibility

Especially with small spaces, a flexible interior is a must. With the lack of space to provide different areas for varying purposes, it is a great idea to create a space that can be easily transformed to accommodate a different activity or task. This is so that the interior can cater to people with different or specific needs. For instance, a restaurant may utilize tables that are not built in so that it can be placed together for big groups of customers.

3.   Signages

One of the most helpful features that could make commercial interiors more functional is signages. A specific push and pull signage on the door can help people who are having problems determining which way the door swings. A very simple solution to a problem that has embarrassed so many people. Same with the problem of trying to locate the bathroom. People should be able to easily locate a bathroom, especially those in the most hidden corners.
In addition, signages can also be custom made and created in such a way that promotes your business. Signs may not be complicated at all. It could even be incorporated into the design to make it look seamless while still providing people with important messages to keep in mind.

4.   Inclusivity

This might be one of the most important features every commercial interior should have. An inclusive space is essential because it enables the accommodation of different kinds of people, no matter the age, gender, weight, and height, including those with disabilities. This will enable a wider range of people to comfortably access and utilize the space with minimal to no issues at all. One of the simplest examples of an inclusive interior is the provision of seats with varying heights and widths. This can be used in lobbies and waiting areas where different kinds of people are present at the same time.
If you’ve just started your own business and just purchased/rented commercial property, you can definitely do the designing on your own. There’s nothing wrong with that. However, it will be nowhere near the work of a professional. It is highly recommended that you consider hiring an interior designer to aid you in designing the space. They can make it not only visually pleasing but functional and beneficial to your business as well in ways you never thought it can.
