As the construction industry is ramping up for the rise in summer projects given the cooperative weather – home and school renovations, new developments, etc. – businesses are relying on new hires. Data from Selective Insurance’s study, highlights the safety risks facing employees at the start of the job.
The study, analyzing worker compensation claims over a ten-year period, found that in 2021 38% of claims were filed by first-year employees compared to 32% of claims in 2011.
With employees reporting a workplace-related injury 18% earlier in their tenure compared to 10 years prior, employers need to ensure that they are offering comprehensive onboarding and training programs for all employees, especially new ones.
