Vitro Architectural Glass (formerly PPG Glass) announced that it has introduced a new Continuing Education (CE) course on the science and development of vacuum insulating glass (VIG) to its collection of CE resources.
As an American Institute of Architects (AIA) Cornerstone Partner, Vitro Architectural Glass is committed to providing quality continuing education courses across all its product categories, which now includes vacuum insulating glass. “Vacuum Insulating Glazing (VIG) Benefits and Advantages in a Sustainable World” is an AIA/CES-registered CE course that reviews the development of vacuum insulation technology, the properties and advantages of vacuum insulating glass and what types of projects can benefit from this innovative architectural glass product. Architects who take the course can earn 1 LU, HSW credit.
“Part of what makes our CE offerings so robust is our commitment to providing impartial, accurate information about the types of architectural glass products that we manufacture,” says Daniel Sutton, product manager for value added products, Vitro Architectural Glass. “We know that product integration is key for our architectural audience when it comes to meeting design goals, and our CE courses offer the foundational knowledge needed to make decisions about product selection.”
Specific learning objectives of the course include understanding how VIG differs from a typical architectural glass unit, how VIG technologies can meet a range of needs from energy savings and acoustic improvements to sustainable building practices, the energy performance of VIG versus traditional product options, and code requirements that this type of product can meet and exceed.
“Vacuum Insulating Glazing (VIG) Benefits and Advantages in a Sustainable World” will be available to architects on demand in the Architectural Record Continuing Education Center and on the Hanley Wood University website.
Vitro will also offer live presentations of “Vacuum Insulating Glazing (VIG) Benefits and Advantages in a Sustainable World” to its audience of Glass Insider enewsletter subscribers, who are invited to participate in educational webinars hosted by Vitro national architectural mangers several times per month. Live presentations of the course will begin in early 2023.
After the conclusion of the educational portion of the presentation, interested attendees will also have the opportunity to learn about VacuMax™ Vacuum Insulating Glass (VIG) by Vitro. VacuMax™ VIG units can enhance the performance of any insulating glass unit by significantly improving thermal efficiency, delivering insulation performance that is two to four times better than conventional insulating glass and up to 14 times better than monolithic glass.
VacuMax™ VIG units can be used alone as a replacement for monolithic glass or as a substitute for the interior lite in a traditional one-inch insulating glass unit (IGU) where it forms a second airspace and creates a hybrid IGU that can achieve a center of glass R-value of R16. The full range of Solarban® glass coatings and Vitro Glass substrates are available on the non-VIG lites in a hybrid IGU.
