Boxes lying haphazardly on the floors, your wardrobes, running, and your cabinets empty, this might sound like a dream but can be an actuality if you are moving and packing.  If you take a survey today and ask people to list down three stressful events, pretty sure moving house will be one of them. While we live in a house, we know that we have some valuable things to us. Besides jewelry and cash, there can be other stuff too that you might have bought at high prices. It can be a vase that you might have purchased from an antique shop or one of your favorite wristwatch.
Picking off your favorite mirror from a wall, emptying your wardrobe, or gathering all potteries and packing is one of the draining tasks. Be it a stay at a home woman or a working lady, when it comes to packing everything to unbox it again, they all are on their toes. It is not the small items that are a nuisance to pack but the larger ones. You might not need many large items like furniture, sofas, table, or other electronic supplies right after moving in.
Unpacking  all those boxes can even take you weeks before you place them back in a cabinet. You cannot leave those heavy items back at your old house, nor can you keep it at a friend’s. Thanks to storage units, they are here to tackle our needs of temporary storage stuff and keep it safe without worrying about picking it up anytime soon. You can store all the heavy things in a storage unit and start packing your belongings in boxes later on.
If you are worried about safeguarding your valuable boxes during a move, the following tips can help you keep your valuables safe.

  1. Take inventory

Your valuable items, like your kitchen appliances or other electronic things, need extra care while packing them. Before getting into the packing phase, grab a paper and pen, go through your belongings, and list down valuables. A valuable item doesn’t need to be a piece of jewelry; your plasma TV is not cheap. Note down everything of value to you and take pictures before packing them. The images can come handy as evidence of your possession to claim insurance in case of any damage.

  1. Know about coverage

Many moving services offer some insurance for the stuff they move as it is their responsibility to guarantee your belonging. When looking for a moving company, inquire about their coverage protocols, and compare it with three other companies. Pick out the one that offers more coverage within reasonable prices. Comparing the coverage protocols will help you in deciding the kind of coverage you need for your valuables. The safety of your valuables also depends on your mover’s rapport. Choose your mover carefully and forget not to read the reviews regarding their service on their websites.

  1. Pick the right box

While you are packing your valuable belongings, make sure that the chosen box is strong enough to endure any pressure. It is understandable that we are using recycled or already used boxes; we can still get some boxes in good condition to hold our heavy valuables without tearing off. If you have a lot of space in the box, ensure some padding before placing your belongings in it. The padding will prevent the items from shifting within the box that may lead to damage. If you have packed your things in a small-sized box, to provide it extra protection, fit that small box in a medium-sized box. It will not only make it durable but also prevent it from any damage.

  1. Place jewelry separately

Jewelry is indeed an expensive item, and it costs way more than we can imagine. If you are thinking about how to pack your jewelry, do not mix it in any of the boxes. Preserve all your jewelry separately and place them in a different bag. Placing the jewelry in other bags will prevent them from getting tangled and breaking up.

  1. Keep your valuables with you.

While we are on the move, it is impossible to keep everything in our car, but valuable items can indeed find a place in your vehicle. If you think that the things may break while loading them in a truck. Try to pack them in your car instead. In the case of jewelry and cash, you can carry a portable safe to ensure that your valuables are safe. Keeping these items in your sight lessens your stress, and you can take them along with you to your new house instead of relying on the movers.
Conclusion
Moving to a new place and then buying things to decorate your new house entails many expenses. You might need to save some of the budgets for food takeaways the first week after your settlement. You will need to save as much money as possible instead of making for the stuff to get them repaired. A damaged or broken item might cost you a lot of repair money if it lacks insurance. Supervise the truck while the movers are loading your boxes on it. Take every precaution and plan a safe move without announcing on your social media about it. You can also avail of extra insurance for the protection of your valuable items.
