Expanding its commitment to leadership in the community of building industry professionals locally and nationally, RKTB Architects has announced that Tara Toro, the firm’s operations manager, was recently selected to serve as Vice Chairwoman for the Women’s Committee of the Queens & Bronx Building Association (QBBA), an organization representing the residential and commercial construction industry across Queens, the Bronx, and the greater New York Metro Region.
Toro will serve in her leadership position alongside QBBA executive director Maria Kyrkou and committee Chairwoman Jovana Meeks. Formed last year, the QBBA Women’s Committee is described by the established trade group as a diverse and dedicated group of professional women “who are making an impact in their fields and within QBBA,” and who are “passionate about shaping the future of the industry.
Committed to fostering growth, collaboration, and leadership opportunities for women in the construction and real estate sectors, members help organize women-focused events and foster mentorship opportunities, while promoting advancement among members including the possibility of one or two women taking seats on the QBBA Board.
According to a recent announcement from the organization, the committee membership currently numbers 14 women and growing, with expertise spanning business development, marketing, event planning, public relations, and real estate.

Toro brings considerable experience and enterprise to bear in her new role. A graduate of Pace University with a degree in Business Administration, she joined RKTB in 2008 and quickly expanded her responsibilities to encompass office operations, finance management, and human resources, earning her a prominent leadership role in the firm. According to RKTB’s partners, their operational foundation rests on Toro’s shoulders, noting that she has been largely responsible for shepherding the implementation of increasingly complex computer and communications technology at the center of RKTB’s operations.
“Tara’s contributions make it possible for our growing practice to consistently produce high-quality work, expand our staff, and grow our clientele,” says managing principal Peter Bafitis, AIA. “As supporters of QBBA’s overall mission and that of the Women’s Committee, we think they have made the right choice selecting her for this leadership role.”
Toro, who has been active with the Women’s Committee since its inception, reports that she is excited and honored to contribute.
“As a supporter of the Committee’s mission of fostering relationships and opportunities for women in the construction and real estate sectors, I’m grateful for the chance to serve in the Vice Chair role and look forward to collaborating with Maria, Jovana, and all of the stellar women who have already made it an early success,” she says.
