The Director of Development Project Management & Logistics for Which Wich® Superior Sandwiches on the power of Zoom calls, why her office is a sanctuary and how Paul Simon plays on the soundtrack of her life.
What is the most cherished item in your home office?
My Burt’s Bees chapstick. I couldn’t live without it.
What is the office item you cannot do without?
My phone charger. I feel like my phone dies almost every hour.
What is the background noise that plays as the soundtrack in your office?
No background noises, as I am on calls (phone and Zoom) all day long. Although I do have the occasional child yelling from the other room, I am thankful for the mute button.
What does your typical work day look like?
Depending on when my kids wake up, I try to take them on a walk before work, and then I head into my office and never leave. At least it feels that way. We still have lots of stores in development and are continuing to move forward on top of some other projects we are working on. I even eat lunch at my desk. It is hard to eat a meal with two little ones running around constantly wanting what you’re eating.
How are you staying connected with your team? Customers?
I have always worked remote from home, so nothing has really changed for me. But I definitely have had an uptick on Zoom calls. We have even started having LEAP Days (franchisee prospect days), where we Zoom with the whole team each Thursday. It has been awesome.
Name the band you cannot take off your playlist.
Paul Simon, of all things. My husband, kids and I play him on Pandora every evening after work in the backyard.
Favorite binge watching series right now?
Just finished “Outlander.” I also loved “The Last Dance.”
Favorite comfort food.
Chili con queso, claro.
Biggest influence on your life?
I would have to say every single person in my family—all for different reasons. I am lucky to have always been, and always continue to be, surrounded by such incredible people.
Best advice you ever received?
When something seems like a big deal, take a step back and think about it in the grand scheme of things. Often times, it is not.
What trait do you most admire?
Genuity.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Write all of your favorite memories down.
Have you tried the virtual happy hour yet?
Oh man, have I ever. I love being around people. I was doing this almost every night in the beginning of all this after my husband and I would get the kids down. Even played BINGO one night with a group of friends and actually won. First time ever. I was supposed to win a bottle of vodka, but now that I think about it, I never received my prize. Thanks for reminding me.
What is the first thing you are going to do when you are able to get back to some sense of normalcy?
Go hug every one of my family and friends and never let go.
