Shawmut Design and Construction, a leading $2 billion national construction management firm, marked Safety Week 2025 with a series of nationwide events centered on Total Worker Health, reinforcing the company’s commitment to prioritizing both physical safety and mental well-being across all projects and offices.
Over a thousand Shawmut employee-owners and trade partners participated in toolbox talks, CPR certification, virtual resilience training, and wellness activations throughout the week. Company leaders also visited job sites across the country, including FM’s 320,000-square-foot research and development complex in Norwood, Massachusetts, where more than 250 tradespeople gathered for safety discussions led by senior executives.

“Construction is an inherently demanding and dangerous industry. It’s important that we take this week each year to bring attention and intention to safety, but we need to be sure that every day of the year we focus on physical and mental health so that all of our workers make it home safely,” said Les Hiscoe, Shawmut’s chief executive officer.
“At Shawmut, we take a Total Worker Health approach because we know safety of the entire person—physical, mental, and psychological—is vital to the workplace and to the health and well-being of our employees and trade partners,” said Shaun Carvalho, Shawmut’s chief safety officer.
Programming highlights included:
  • Toolbox Talks led by Shawmut executives and regional leaders on sites across the country
  • A Rest and Reset workshop focused on incorporating rest to improve focus and productivity
  • Emergency response training through Stop the Bleed and CPR/AED certification sessions
  • A resilience-building webinar on managing change and reducing stress
Shawmut’s Safety Week 2025 built on the firm’s long-standing efforts to create safer, healthier, and more inclusive jobsites. By integrating mental health support, hands-on training, and everyday accountability, the company continues to strengthen its safety culture and set new standards for total worker well-being.
