When fashion retailer Zara wanted to create a huge, one-of-a-kind store in Tribeca, they knew it was a complicated job that had to be done on a tight schedule, so they turned to Schimenti Construction for its combination of retail construction expertise and New York City know-how.
Completed the first week of November, the new store encompasses four floors and 34,231 square feet. Located at 222 Broadway at Ann Street, just south of City Hall Park, this build-out is a unique design for Zara, with newly designed wall finishes, staircase, escalators, elevator and backlit custom metal façade panels. Construction began in March and was finished in just 35 weeks.
“Along the way, our team overcame many difficult challenges including coordination with DOT, a full structural facade installation, and design/build of an extensive HVAC system,” saysProject Manager, Jesse Bochichio. “Many unique materials were sourced from Spain, where Zara is based, to give them just the look they wanted.”
The Schimenti Construction project team also included Joseph Schimenti, managing director; Brian Tubman, assistant project manager; superintendents Bill Caracciolo and Ron Wrensen; and project coordinator MaryAnn Fodera. The architect was Gensler of Atlanta.
Schimenti Construction has a long-standing relationship with Zara, one of the world’s leading fashion retailers. Among the seven New York regional locations we have built are the brand’s Fifth Avenue flagship, also completed in 2015.
