On February 29, Plaza Construction presented a check for $155,000 to Voices For Children Foundation, Inc. at Plaza’s 10th Annual Golf Invitational at La Gorce Country Club, surpassing last year’s $150,000 charitable contribution. Accepting the check from tournament host and foundation board member Brad Meltzer (Center Right), President of Plaza’s Southeast Region, were Voices For Children Foundation’s Nelson Hincapie (Center Left), President and CEO, and foundation board members Gail Appelrouth (Immediate Past Chair) and Jay Shapiro, Esq. (a Shareholder at Stearns Weaver Miller Weissler Alhadeff & Sitterson, P.A.).
The foundation enables the Guardian ad Litem Program to recruit, train and support volunteers to serve as the “Voice” for abused, abandoned and neglected children by advocating for their best interests in dependency court proceedings. Voices’ financial support also helps fulfill the children’s medical, educational and social needs in Miami-Dade. With more than 100 golfers and supporters participating, this year’s Platinum tournament sponsors included Areda Construction, Baker Concrete, and Capform, and Gold sponsors included Dynalectric and HJ Foundation.
In making the announcement, Brad Meltzer stated, “On behalf of Plaza Construction and our many sponsors and supporters, we are especially proud of this year’s contribution benefiting Voices For Children Foundation. Based on the foundation’s superb track record, it is comforting to know that these funds will truly make a difference in children’s lives.”
Also commenting, Nelson Hincapie, President and CEO of Voices For Children Foundation, Inc., added, “We are very grateful for the support from Plaza Construction; it is with their help that we are able to change the trajectory of children’s lives. At Voices we believe that it takes a village to transform the lives of children and youth in foster care and we are proud to have Plaza help us build that village.”
Under Meltzer’s leadership, Plaza is committed to the community and social responsibility, devoting its expertise and energies to public causes and charities. In South Florida, Plaza continues its tradition of corporate giving to both local and national organizations. Prior recipients of Plaza’s annual golf tournament have included The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and the National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. Plaza has also sponsored corporate events for the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center through participation in the Dolphin Cycling Challenge.
