The demand for skilled trades professionals continues to outpace supply across the country and National Technical Institute (NTI) is taking another step to help close the gap. The vocational trade school will open its fifth campus this fall in Reno-Sparks, Nevada, creating a new training hub designed to prepare the next generation of HVAC, plumbing and electrical technicians.
The 8,000-square-foot facility at The Oddie District will train up to 400 students annually, giving recent high school graduates, veterans and career changers a direct path into high-demand construction careers.
NTI has already begun renovating a former big box retail space into a purpose-built training center featuring hands-on learning labs, individual workstations and industry-driven curriculum. Students will complete accelerated certification programs in as little as 12 to 16 weeks before connecting with employers through the school’s career placement services.
Local workforce leaders identified the Reno-Sparks region as one of Nevada’s fastest-growing markets with a significant shortage of qualified trades professionals, making the expansion a strategic investment for both the school and the local construction industry.
The new campus also reflects a broader trend of education providers partnering more closely with industry to address workforce shortages. NTI works directly with contractors to develop practical training programs that mirror real jobsite conditions and evolving technologies.
As demand continues to grow for skilled labor across residential, commercial and industrial construction, investments in workforce development such as NTI’s Reno-Sparks campus will play an increasingly important role in helping contractors find qualified talent while creating new career opportunities throughout the region.
